Susanna Martin:
On the Power of Music
Susannah Martin believes strongly in the power of music to touch hearts, minds and souls. She has served as a singer for the Sedona Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (SUUF) since 2014, sharing her talents in a creative blend of songs meant to enhance and enliven our services and special events. As an acclaimed vocalist in Arizona, performing with numerous bands, Susannah is beloved for her beautiful vocals in styles ranging from classical to jazz & popular music. Sharing her music with the fellowship is a wonderful way for her to use her musical talents to inspire our spiritual community.
Music has been a huge and healing part of Susannah’s life since she was a child attending the San Diego School of Creative & Performing Arts. In addition to classical and jazz voice, she studied Music Therapy in college because she believed so strongly in the power of music to heal – physically, socially, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. Susannah’s desire to use music for the betterment of humanity led her to work for several music nonprofits managing community a cappella choirs, music festivals and music education programs.
‘Music Ministry’ is also a precious expression of the power of music to heal and uplift the spirit. That’s what Susannah gets to do with SUUF! True to UU form, SUUF has its own, unique way of bringing music into the service, apparent in the inclusion of many popular songs and styles into our services. UU values like honoring diversity, expressing freedom and promoting creativity of thought and practice are all evident in the messages presented at services and also in the music we choose.
How great it is for us to experience, together, the spiritual power of music, the beauty of the art, the meaningful messages that find our hearts and souls, and the bonds we nurture through our beloved community!
