The Call of the Elder

Times, like these, of great uncertainty and upheaval can initiate an acceleration of calling. This call includes the call to awaken the elder and the sage within each person’s heart. In the old wisdom traditions, elders were considered to have one foot firmly on the ground of presence and of survival, and the other in the realm of great imagination. This talk will explore the Call of The Elder in each of us as a resource of resiliency and endurance.

“There are seasons, in human affairs, of inward and outward revolution, when new depths seem to be broken up in the soul, when new wants are unfolded in multitudes, and a new and undefined good is thirsted for. There are periods when to dare, is the highest wisdom.” – Rev. William Ellery Channing

“Put simply, I charge each of us to live while being alive. Remember that your life won’t be measured by how many breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away. Find such moments, create such moments, multiply such moments and spread such moments.” – Rev. Tom Owen-Towle
