The Buddha once said, “My teachings are like a finger pointing to the moon. Don’t mistake the finger for the moon.” This Sunday, we explore the difference between the symbols and stories we use to describe truth—and the deeper truths themselves. As Unitarian Universalists, we draw from many sources: scripture, poetry, science, silence. But do we sometimes confuse the forms of our faith with its essence? What happens when we cling too tightly to the finger and lose sight of the moon? Join us for a service of reflection on the spiritual journey—the mystery, the metaphors, and the invitation to look beyond what is merely pointing, toward what is ultimately illuminating.
