During World War I, the 369th Infantry Regiment—known as the Harlem Hellfighters—fought for 191 consecutive days on the front lines, longer than any other American regiment. They faced extraordinary danger abroad while also confronting racism and discrimination at home.
This service, honoring Veterans Day, is entitled “191 Days,” remembers the courage and perseverance of the Harlem Hellfighters and invites us to reflect on what it means to keep going when the road is difficult. Their story raises enduring spiritual questions: What gives us the strength to persevere? How do we respond when the world fails to recognize our worth? And what does courage look like when justice has not yet arrived?
