Before attending a Sunday morning service, visitors generally wonder what the people there will be like. For example, what sort of folks will they find if they come to a gathering of the Sedona Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (SUUF)?
Unitarians can’t be easily summarized. But here are some commonalities.
SUUF people generally have questioning minds and expansive hearts. They welcome people with diverse views. They don’t expect others to mute their personal background or beliefs or to conform to a standard doctrine.
In other words, Unitarians think for themselves and have idea-sharing conversations that touch on important questions, such as:
- Spiritual aspirations
- The sources of truth and beauty in their lives,
- Achieving inner peace and wisdom
- How they can serve best in the world
- Life and death
They have varied outlooks on what matters most in life and how to live it fully, but they hold in common a strong set of life-affirming, compassionate values.
They respect each others’ spiritual journeys and honor where each individual has been before, where they are now, and wherever their spiritual path might take them.
SUUF offers a wide range of experiences for visitors to try, including uplifting services, insightful messages from the congregation’s leader, Rev. Anthony Mtuaswa Johnson, inspiring contemporary songs, friendly small group discussions, wide-ranging adult education opportunities, collaboration on community activities that contribute to social justice, warm inclusion of people in marginalized groups, supportive caring for each other, and dedication to preserving their natural environment.
