November is National American Indian Heritage Month.

This Sunday we welcome our guest speaker, S.D. Nelson (Steve), a new member of SUUF.  In his talk he will share his own background and experiences and focus as well on Native American life and the vision of Black Elk.

Steve is the author and illustrator of numerous award-winning Native American children’s books.  He has a diverse ethnic background, descended from Norse and American Indian heritage and is an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in the Dakotas. His acrylic paintings are held in many permanent collections.

(The service “What Is Soul?” with Rev. Anthony Mtuaswa Johnson, originally planned for this weekend, will be held on a future date. Our thoughts are with Rev. Anthony and his wife Lydia as they recover from Covid.)

We’ll gather around the outer tables and participate in our first “Listening Circle,” passing the microphone as leaders from our Leadership Retreat, held Oct. 4-5, share ideas from the retreat.  Congregants are invited to share their responses.  See Donna Fox’s report on the retreat in November’s issue of The Flame for more information.
