Our guest speaker, Dr. Joe Wegwert, will present a sermon entitled\u00a0 \u201dChoosing Good Trouble,\u201d that examines how Unitarian Universalists might draw on our Values and Principles to challenge the present currents of post-truth politics in American culture. How does the \u201csearch for truth and meaning\u201d translate in a culture of toxic individualism and celebrated greed and political threats and violence?<\/p>\n
How do we inoculate ourselves against the cynicism and despair sown by authoritarianism \u2013 specifically, Christian Nationalism \u2013 as we work toward the \u201cbeloved community\u201d that describes our democratic aspirations? This sermon will address these questions through a discussion of the concept of Truth, a consideration of our radical (and heretical) UU heritage, and the challenges of our UU identities of (largely) whiteness, middle-classness, and niceness.<\/p>\n
