{"id":8629,"date":"2024-06-14T12:00:54","date_gmt":"2024-06-14T19:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/?p=8629"},"modified":"2025-06-12T20:23:55","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T03:23:55","slug":"unitarian-worship-106","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/news\/blog\/unitarian-worship-106\/","title":{"rendered":"Unitarian Worship [#106]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Worship at the Sedona Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is about relationship.<\/p>\n<p>Unitarians are inspired by care and concern for one another, for the world-wide human family, for their natural environment, and for their relationship with Mystery, or Wisdom, or God.\u00a0 Their weekly service connects them to what\u2019s deeper, wiser, and more compassionate than their usual preoccupations, thereby creating opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.<\/p>\n<p>Music is woven throughout the service.\u00a0 SUUF\u2019s music director Susannah Martin performs music\u00a0and leads sing-alongs that beautifully evoke the spirit of each week\u2019s service theme.<\/p>\n<p>Lighting the chalice, a hallmark of UU worship, creates a sacred space and unites the congregation with their UU kin around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees are invited to say aloud their joys and concerns, the celebrations and griefs they wish to share with the congregation. Letting others know about their pain provides healing and comfort; sharing their joys strengthens the strands of familiarity and friendship among them.<\/p>\n<p>Moments of silence encourage participants to align their full attention with something greater, so their wisest inner voice can arise from the usual clatter between their\u00a0ears.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of UU worship is the minister\u2019s sermon. Rev. Anthony\u2019s message usually illuminates a core UU principle and draws upon his original poetry, folk wisdom,\u00a0other religions&#8217;\u00a0sacred texts, or even pop culture to explain its meaning and applications. He inspires and challenges the congregation to reflect on life\u2019s most demanding questions; and he suggests ideas and actions they can apply in daily life to implement their deepest truths.<\/p>\n<p>UU Rev.
