{"id":7652,"date":"2023-12-22T12:00:05","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T19:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/?p=7652"},"modified":"2025-06-07T11:05:59","modified_gmt":"2025-06-07T18:05:59","slug":"uu-and-jesus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/news\/blog\/uu-and-jesus\/","title":{"rendered":"About Jesus [#83]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sedona Unitarian Universalist Fellowship congregants\u2019 views of Jesus reflect the diversity of thought encouraged by their liberal faith, which honors everyone\u2019s \u201cfree\u00a0and\u00a0responsible\u00a0search\u00a0for\u00a0truth and\u00a0meaning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many UUs view Jesus as a moral exemplar, practicing the compassion, generosity, and mercy that he preached. \u00a0They are inspired by Jesus\u2019 calls to connect &#8212; to transcend pride and selfishness, to choose instead to love and serve, to do good, and to care for each other.<\/p>\n<p>For some, Jesus was a prophetic leader and an instrument or manifestation of the divine. They share with many Christians a conviction that his witness has the spiritual power to redeem mistakes and save lives. They feel a\u00a0personal relationship with him that strengthens and uplifts.<\/p>\n<p>Others view Jesus as a reformer and dissident, an underdog and ally. He was executed as a political criminal because of his teachings; he called out injustice; he stood with and spoke up for the most vulnerable; and he challenged his followers to feed the hungry and visit the imprisoned.<\/p>\n<p>This list could go on and on.<\/p>\n<p>Its overall import, however, is that whatever one\u2019s view of Jesus, there likely is a UU who shares it.
