While Sedona Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (SUUF) members value individuality and respect everyone’s inherent worth and uniqueness, they also recognize their membership in and interdependence with their wider community.<\/p>\n
The Unitarian tradition certainly has a vertical dimension, a connection with Ultimate Reality.\u00a0 However, it also gives great importance to the horizontal dimension, how we deal with the exchanges that occur in everyday social reality.<\/p>\n
In fact, the second of seven core Unitarian principles is a commitment to \u201cjustice, equality, and compassion in human relations.\u201d<\/p>\n
In other words, Unitarians\u2019 core concern for each person (their compassion) moves them to care about fair treatment for every person (equity), which leads to active engagement in their community to support impartial treatment of each other (justice).<\/p>\n
Even more succinctly, a Unitarian motto is \u201cDeed, not creed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Consider these two statements, one by Mother Teresa and one by Unitarian leader, Gene Pickett, when asked about life\u2019s essential meaning.\u00a0 Mother Teresa said it is \u201cto become holy, and to go to heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pickett\u2019s response was: \u201cLife\u2019s purpose is to become whole and to create heaven on earth.\u201d<\/p>\n
