Members serve three-year, staggered terms. The LDC meets on an as-needed basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Community Outreach Committee<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This three-member committee, established in our bylaws, identifies community needs that SUUF congregants actively work to support. Members serve three-year, staggered terms. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Projects for 2024-2025&#8230;stay tuned!<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Projects for 2023-2024<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<div dir=\"auto\">1. We work with the Sedona Food Bank in their effort to supply snacks to elementary school children.\u00a0 On Thursdays in April and May, volunteers bag food items and take them to West Sedona Elementary School for distribution.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">2. A group of volunteers met at Manzanita Outreach in Cottonwood on October 12, 2023, and February 22, 2024, from 9:30 until noon to help the organization feed the people of Yavapai County.\u00a0 We have done a variety of packing and sorting tasks for them.\u00a0 It&#8217;s always a nice time to visit as we work. Manzanita Outreach works to alleviate hunger throughout Yavapai County. Prior to each volunteer event, a sign-up sheet is in the lobby at Sunday services.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7406\" src=\"https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/worthy-now-420x420.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/worthy-now-420x420.png 420w, https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/worthy-now-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/worthy-now-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/worthy-now-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/worthy-now.png 1125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 248px) 100vw, 248px\" \/><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">3. <strong>We are sponsoring a<\/strong> &#8220;<strong>Worthy Now<\/strong>&#8221; <strong>project to write letters to UUs behind bars.\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Did you know the<strong> largest UU congregation in the world (with 3,500 members) is the Church of the Larger Fellowship (CLF).<\/strong> These folks are UUs, like us, who lack access to an in-person congregation. Most are home-bound or live in rural areas or abroad. About 1,600 are incarcerated. Some were UUs before they were locked up, but most learned about UU through UUA\u2019s Prison Ministry Network, sponsors of the \u201cWorthy Now\u201d Program.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><strong>Worthy Now affirms UU\u2019s first principle: \u201cthe inherent worth and dignity of every person,\u201d regardless of whether that person is free or imprisoned.<\/strong> To sustain their UU spirit, Worthy Now sponsors a \u201cpen pal\u201d program between a free and an incarcerated UU. They match the pair of participants, and ask them to exchange about one friendly letter per month, for at least six months, using a very carefully controlled process.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Both men and women participate, but there can be no romantic, legal-aid or financial \/ gift interactions. SUUF and JCSVV will work jointly in March and April, 2024, to collect items for <strong>summer survival kits for the homeless population in the Verde Valley<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Outreach Projects for Fiscal Year 2022-2023<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>Collection for Sedona Area Homeless Alliance (small toiletries and plastic bags).<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>Support of Hope House, a home built to help homeless families with children in Sedona. SUUF has provided supplies to furnish Hope House bathrooms and provide toiletries, and will continue its support in new ways in the upcoming year. Stay tuned for ways to contribute and to help alleviate the problem. We plan to continue this in \u201923 -\u201824 \u00a0by collecting donations in January.\u00a0 Volunteers also assisted the Food Bank\u2019s Backpack Program by packing bags of food which were delivered to local Sedona Schools and placed in the backpacks of qualifying students. Each food pack contains enough food to feed a child over the weekend. We will continue this effort, volunteering on Thursdays in April and May of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong>Money was collected for two organizations which offer support to Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sedonauu.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/7F82FC69-C9F7-4AE9-9AE2-76B92B706EF2_1_105_c-420x315.jpeg\" width=\"203\" height=\"153\" \/>&#8211; <\/strong>A collection was taken to help The Yavapai-Apache Youth Council raise money to send 15 youth to the national conference of <a href=\"https:\/\/unityinc.org\/\">United National Indian Tribal Youth (UNITY)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leadership Development Committee As established by our bylaws, the three-member LDC ensures consistent and continuous leadership by selecting nominees for positions to be filled and by providing leadership training to SUUF members.
